The Posy Kaftan is a wardrobe staple with ease and beauty that embodies effortless style. Our oversized kaftan is designed to flatter every body type and be worn in every season of life, and of the year.
The design on this piece is hand-drawn, hand-carved and blockprinted by hand with non-toxic ink. The imagery is inspired by Eastern European paper cuttings, which often depict the Tree of Life and women (or couples) making offerings to the Tree. Much of Eastern European ritual and tradition for women involves flowers, whether real or artfully made, as does this piece. Women have been embroidering, weaving, cutting, carving, and molding images like these for tens of thousands of years. It's my honor to keep this tradition alive in my work, and keep this sacred imagery present in the visual dictionary of daily life for women. Please consider this piece my offering.
The colorway of deep browns chosen for this piece taps into something primal and ancient. A remembering beyond words, like the impulse to hibernate with the bears in winter, this garment is meant to cover, honor, and protect the body of a woman. The simplicity and useful nature of this garment, along with the colors, implies it could be worn in 10,000 BC or the present day. In my artistic reverie, I hone in on these deepest darkest browns, with a dreamlike feeling, and from there springs forth beauty, depth, and strength.
